Do not assign blame

do not appoint blame on the covering of antiquated reason
there is a process, by which we all seek shelter
under rune myths and scaphandrier congestion like paved maps
quoting each other on the way to Clarksville, wearing scaffolding,
pardoning the songbirds for the templed walks
and crane hedging maneuvers that cap off at the hook

this restitution from God that some may seek is backwards
for if the balances were tolled we would find ourselves in deficit
like a rock rowing iron to the last chapel in the northern foothills
where not even Iraqi sand can get an applause from the starved crowd

but do not assign blame, for we each lied to our own mothers once
casually absent and diminutive like sheep herders clear across town
there is a reason we do what we do, and they can hardly shape the sea
or move the ocean without the assist that no one wants to mention
for all cat hurdlers think they would have been saints but the sins of God
that they were forced to endure, at the great length of their mercy, and patience
