The fetishism of death
The people who want to “save our democracy”
are the same people who still believe
“the American dream” is real.
Nothing short of internalized capitalism.
Or, what Ernest Becker called, the denial of death.
I read that book as a rather young man
and it has never stopped being relevant.
Perhaps it is not about Baudrillard’s compulsive
fetishism of capital, absorbed through the skin,
but the fetishism of death, with no way not to intoxicate.
To be in denial is to be aware. And to be aware is to be entrapped.
