Just a cautionary lecture
Paul Simon is drinking sour wine
on the patio across from the edge
where living finds its final step
I will stop breathing to his voice
like locomotion to stop currents
warnings in the tray dying in time
before the smoke of the belly
Earth erupts in the oceans now
all that you thought you had
I see you now, your paradise hills
all the innocent that you trampled,
leaving the same time as you plow
I was loved, granted, and able to exit
Earth before the ash and blood and ruins
imagine the trampling clowns patience
landslide falling on their ears this time
on the winter pouring out its waste
here a hazard to speak far from the grave
I am a cautionary tale, a lecture of fallen trails
so soothed did grace leave you disdained
