Extirpation of Values

God does not speak to me today.
She does not want to. She is saddened
by the disrepair of humanity
and the extirpation of values.
We have paved our own sophistry
like shadows on the steps into the house,
like prison swaps and discarded fellows.
We will not give of ourselves
to bring this meeting to order
or this hegemony to its rite-ful burial.
