A hall pass from God

Discipline is more valuable than money,
more important than transcendence,
and might even be a hall pass from God.

Within the mourning wintersong
winter quarters are silent
spreadsheets dispose nocturnal engraftment.

Leading this way or that
the final pearl rejected
not really wholesome,

Or rejuvenated with the sick soldiers
like a temporary doorman
in the evenings of halls and mirrors.
